Prayer Warrior #4 - Boys Camp I

Boys Camp I

We have been rotating boat drivers each day this summer since we don’t have a regular person taking the wheel each day. Today I got to drive the boat during free time. While it can be challenging to break away from duties in the office, it has provided a great way to connect with campers and TCL. Since the campers are young, they regularly come to the boat dock a little skittish about getting on the tube. One boy today told me right away that he wasn’t going to ride. After he saw the first group of three boys get pulled, he then decided he needed a turn. He jumped on the tube sandwiched between both his cabin leaders. After two circles around the lake and one gentle spill, he popped his head above water letting everyone know, “that was the best thing yet!” Pray for these boys to have a week full of fun and new friendships.

Boys like to have fun. When the boys have fun on the boat and the waterslide, it seems to cure all their longings for home. There is at least one boy this week who is struggling with homesickness. Pray for him and others to have similar moments of great fun, as we hope it will calm their anxieties about being away from home for the first time. Our speaker, Nathaniel Buss from Shelter Cove Church in Modesto keeps the boys engaged with questions all through his messages. Pray that these boys would clearly hear the gospel message.

By the way, it encourages me to watch these cabin leaders. All of them play with the boys during free time. They often let the boys win. During cabin leader meetings, they talk with light-hearted banter and yet they keep a serious focus toward the mission of sharing the gospel. Pray that God would sustain their efforts and bless their ministry this week.

TCL Update

This coming weekend we have our first TCL transition of the summer. TCL 1 is finishing their last week. Jr. TCL 1 participants are getting ready for their week ahead. We have had a good first session. There hasn’t been any issues where we’ve had to send teens home. Very little drama. They all seem to get along and they help each other out. Tonights study was on Psalm 131, which is only three verses long. It’s a simple song about calming one’s heart before the LORD. So our 8:00 session became an opportunity for them to go out and spend an hour focusing on being present with the LORD. Pray that God use these final quiet times at LBC to strengthen their knowledge and faith in their Savior.
